What is an Ankle-Foot Orthosis (AFO)?
An AFO (Ankle-Foot Orthosis) is an orthopedic device designed to stabilize and support the ankle joint and the foot.

AFO orthoses are used to restore and maintain functional mobility in people with neurological and orthopedic conditions. They play an important role in the rehabilitation process and contribute to improving quality of everyday life.
AFO devices are commonly used in conditions such as paralysis, muscle weakness, nervous system injuries, as well as various orthopedic deformities.

Their design is aimed at providing ankle stability, correcting foot position, and improving balance during walking.

Thanks to individualized fitting and the use of modern materials, AFO orthoses help users move more confidently, safely, and comfortably.

Types of AFO
There are various types of AFO devices:
  • Rigid AFO: This device completely restricts movement and is preferred in cases of severe muscle weakness and paralysis.
  • Dynamic AFO: Provides a certain degree of movement at the ankle and is suitable for everyday use.
  • Carbon Fiber AFO: Ideal for sports and active use due to its lightweight construction.
  • Custom-Made AFO: Designed according to individual measurements and provides maximum comfort.
